10GBASE-T SFP+ transceiver for copper links

This SFP+ transceiver delivers 10GBASE-T connectivity over an RJ-45 port. It fits any SFP+ cage that accepts the SFP MSA form factor and targets network engineers extending 10 GbE over existing copper cabling. The module is RoHS compliant and built to the IEEE 802.3an standard for interoperability.

30-metre reach on Cat6a or better

The transceiver supports links up to 30 metres when used with Category 6a or higher twisted-pair cable. Performance drops off beyond that distance because the 10GBASE-T PHY cannot maintain the required signal-to-noise ratio on longer copper runs. Shorter patches on Cat6 may work but are not guaranteed by the standard.

SFP+ cage and 10GBASE-T PHY constraints

The SFP+ footprint limits power draw and heat dissipation, so the onboard PHY operates at the edge of its thermal envelope. The RJ-45 connector adds insertion loss that consumes the link budget, leaving no margin for extra patch panels or poor terminations. Auto-negotiation falls back to lower speeds only if the link partner advertises them.
