Azden SMX-15 AA Powered Shotgun Video Microphone, Black

Azden SMX-15 Shotgun Microphone for Video

The Azden SMX-15 is a powered shotgun video microphone designed for DSLR and compact camera users who need better audio than built-in mics provide. It uses the same microphone element found in Azden’s professional SGM-250 and SGM-250P shotguns to capture broadcast-quality sound. The super-cardioid polar pattern focuses on audio in front of the camera while rejecting ambient noise from the sides and rear.

Upgrading from On-Camera Audio

This microphone replaces the limited internal microphone on a DSLR or compact camera when clearer dialogue and reduced environmental noise are required. The jump is worth it for interviews, vlogs or run-and-gun shoots where a wide 40Hz to 20kHz frequency response captures full, natural sound. A low-cut filter switch at 120Hz helps suppress rumble from wind, traffic or air-conditioning units.

Battery-Powered Convenience for Camera Rigs

The unit runs on two AA batteries, delivering up to 24 hours of continuous operation with no loss of audio quality. A battery-indicator LED warns when a change is needed, preventing unexpected silence during a take. The compact barrel mounts directly to a camera shoe, leaving the rig lightweight and leaving XLR inputs or external recorders free for other sources.
