Product Purpose

The B+n DS8108-SR is a corded handheld 2D barcode scanner designed for retail, logistics and light industrial workflows. It reads both 1D and 2D symbologies and connects via USB, RS232, Keyboard Wedge or TGCS 46XX over RS485.

Build and Connectivity

The Twilight Black housing is built for daily counter or warehouse use with a fixed cable that removes battery management. Multiple host interfaces let the same unit plug into legacy POS terminals, modern PCs or specialised IBM 46XX systems without adapters.

Upgrade Path

This model replaces older 1D-only laser guns when 2D codes such as QR or Data Matrix become required. The jump is worth it when workflows add mobile tickets, digital loyalty cards or image capture needs supported by Bitmap, JPEG and TIFF export.

Questions about this item

What host interfaces does the DS8108-SR support, and which one limits cable length to about 5 metres in practice?

The scanner supports USB, RS232, Keyboard Wedge and TGCS 46XX over RS485. USB is capped at roughly 5 metres without an active extender, while RS485 can run much farther.

What physical connection does the DS8108-SR need for a TGCS 46XX host?

It requires an RS485 cable with the correct pin-out for the 46XX protocol; the supplied USB cable will not work for that interface.

How do you switch the DS8108-SR from USB to RS232, and what step is often missed?

Scan the RS232 host-configuration barcode from the setup guide, then power-cycle the scanner; forgetting the power cycle leaves it on the old interface.
