B+W 72mm Yellow 495 Filter

The B+W 72mm Yellow 495 filter is a glass camera accessory designed for dedicated black and white photographers. It fits precisely onto a 72mm lens thread. The filter enhances contrast and renders natural sky depiction. It is ideal for digital cameras shooting directly in monochrome mode.

Practical limits of screw-in filters

The filter only works with lenses that have a 72mm front thread. It adds physical thickness to the lens front, which may cause vignetting on ultra-wide focal lengths. The yellow colour shifts tonal response, making it unsuitable for colour photography. Multi-coating reduces glare but does not eliminate all reflections in harsh light.

Check your existing setup

Verify your lens barrel or cap is marked 72mm before ordering. Ensure the front thread is undamaged so the filter mounts securely. Confirm you shoot primarily in black and white, as the 495 designation alters colour balance. Consider whether you need a slim profile to avoid corner shading on wide lenses.
