Countertop Compost Bags

These 1.6 gallon compostable bags fit small kitchen countertop bins and come in a 3 pack of 50 count rolls. They are BPI certified and meet the ASTM D6400 standard for industrial compostability. The plant-based PLA and PBAT material breaks down into humus, CO2 and water within 180 days under industrial composting conditions. Suitable for food scraps, pet waste, courtyard use or camping.

Storage and Shelf Life

Unused bags should be stored in a cool, dry and dark place to extend shelf life. The manufacturer recommends using them within one year of purchase and buying only what can be used within nine months. For hygiene, changing the bag every two days is advised. No special disposal equipment is required beyond access to an industrial composting facility.

Handle Tie Closure

Each bag measures 16.1in by 19.3in and features a handle tie for secure closure and easy carry. The white colour helps identify contents at a glance. These bags are not designed for heavy construction debris or large volume outdoor bins. Buyers needing 13 gallon capacity or flat-top style bags should look at other listings.

Questions about this item

How do I fit these 16.1in x 19.3in bags into my countertop bin without tearing the handle ties?

Open the bag fully, shake it once to seat the gusset, then press the handle ties over the bin rim — forcing the ties before the bag is seated is the step that rips them.

When should I replace an unused roll that has been stored in a cupboard?

Use bags within one year of purchase and buy only what you can finish in nine months; store rolls in a cool, dry, dark place to preserve strength.

Will these 1.6 gallon bags hold up if I leave food scraps in the bin for more than two days?

Change bags every two days for hygiene; the plant-based PLA and PBAT material begins to soften with prolonged moisture, so longer storage risks leaks.
