M.2 M-Key to Six SATA Adapter
This new Barrow Mods adapter lets a desktop PC connect six SATA 3.0 SSDs or HDDs through a single M.2 M-key slot. Six SATA cables are included so the drives can be installed immediately. The ASMedia ASM1166 controller handles the port-multiplier function without any RAID support.
Suits storage expansion without RAID
Builders who want to add multiple SATA drives to a system that has a free M.2 M-key slot will find this a straightforward plug-and-play solution. It works with Windows 7 through 10, several Windows Server releases, and common Linux distributions such as Debian 10 and Ubuntu 20. Users who need hardware RAID arrays or hot-swap capability should look at other solutions.
ASM1166 controller with port multiplier
The onboard ASMedia ASM1166 chip provides the port-multiplier feature that lets the single M.2 lane address six SATA 3.0 devices. No driver installation is required on the supported operating systems listed by the manufacturer.

Questions about this item
My motherboard only has an M.2 slot — does this adapter need a separate PCIe slot to work?
No, it plugs directly into an M.2 M Key slot on the motherboard and draws power from that connector.
I still use a Windows 7 machine — will the ASM1166 controller be recognised without extra drivers?
Yes, the adapter is supported on Windows 7 and the ASM1166 chip works plug-and-play with no additional software.
After installing six drives, how can I confirm every SATA 3.0 port is active?
Check Device Manager or your BIOS — all six drives should appear as individual SATA devices when the adapter is working correctly.
