Product identity

This is a new nickel-cadmium replacement battery rated at 12 volts and 2.5 ampere-hours. It is built to fit Porter Cable power tools that use the original 8623 pack or the 869, 9866/F and BN200V12 part numbers. The pack uses black cells and carries a two-year warranty from the manufacturer.

Who it suits

The battery suits owners of compatible Porter Cable 12 volt tools who need a direct drop-in replacement with the original 2500 milliampere-hour capacity. It is not for users whose tools require a different voltage, a higher capacity pack, or a lithium-ion chemistry. Builders needing multiple packs for continuous rotation should also look elsewhere.

Deciding specification

The critical specification is the 2.5 ampere-hour nickel-cadmium capacity at 12 volts, which must match the tool's original rating. If the tool calls for a different ampere-hour value or a different chemistry, this pack will not work correctly.

Questions about this item

How long will the 2.5 Ah Ni-CD pack sustain a high-drain tool before voltage drops?

The 2500 mAh rating delivers roughly 2.5 amp-hours at 12 V; run-time depends on the tool's current draw and falls as the cells heat up under continuous load.

Does the battery get hot or noisy during all-day use in a Porter Cable drill?

Ni-CD chemistry warms noticeably under sustained discharge; the pack has no fan, so heat is the only by-product — expect the housing to become warm after extended heavy use.

Which charger do I already need to recharge this 12 V BN200V12 pack?

Any Porter Cable 12 V Ni-CD charger that accepts the 8623, 869, 9866/F or BN200V12 form factor will charge this battery.
