1-1/4" Y Strainer for piping systems
The Bell & Gossett 415C is a cast iron Y strainer designed to remove debris from oil, steam or water lines. Its 1-1/4" female NPT connections suit residential and light commercial plumbing installations. A stainless steel screen with 0.0331 in perforations is included and ready for service.
Pressure and temperature limits
The housing is rated for 400 psi at 100 degrees F and 400 psi at 150 degrees F, with a maximum temperature of 400 degrees F. Cast iron construction handles these conditions without deformation. A 3/4" blow-off port allows the screen to be flushed without removing the strainer from the line.
Replaces worn or missing strainers
This unit replaces damaged or corroded strainers in existing 1-1/4" NPT piping where debris protection is required. The jump is worth it when the original screen is clogged, perforated or when a system has no strainer and downstream equipment is at risk. It is not for lines needing a larger port size or a different connection type.

Questions about this item
How do I install the 1-1/4" FNPT connections and what step is often missed?
Thread the female NPT ports onto 1-1/4" male pipe threads using sealant rated for 400 psi at 400 Degrees F; the step often missed is orienting the blow-off port downward so debris can exit through the 3/4" opening.
What maintenance will the stainless steel screen need later?
Remove the screen through the blow-off port and clean the 0.0331 in mesh openings; inspect the cast iron housing for erosion if used with steam at 150 Degrees F and 400 psi.
What limit appears first during sustained steam service at 150 Degrees F?
The 400 psi pressure ceiling at 150 Degrees F is reached before the 400 Degrees F temperature limit, so pressure governs continuous steam operation.
