- Extends reach to 2 km on single-mode fibre at 1310 nm wavelength
- Low 3.5 W power draw extends module service life
- Operates reliably from 0 to 70 °C (32 to 158 °F)
- Hot-pluggable QSFP+ design compliant with SFF-8436 and IEEE 802.3ba
40GBASE-UNIV QSFP+ Transceiver
This 40GBASE-UNIV QSFP+ optical transceiver module delivers 40 Gbps connectivity for data-centre and enterprise networks. It suits network engineers upgrading 10 G infrastructure to 40 G without replacing existing multimode cabling. The hot-pluggable form factor fits standard QSFP+ ports and operates across a commercial temperature range of 0 to 70 °C.
Distance and fibre constraints
Transmission reaches 150 metres on OM3 multimode fibre and 2 kilometres on single-mode fibre at the 1310 nm wavelength. The duplex LC interface supports both fibre types, but the module cannot exceed these distances without signal degradation. Power draw peaks at 3.5 W, so the host port must supply adequate current for reliable operation.
Compliance and monitoring
The module complies with SFF-8436, QSFP MSA and RoHS, and its electrical interface meets IEEE 802.3ba. Built-in digital diagnostic monitoring provides real-time optical performance data for troubleshooting. Buyers needing longer reach, different wavelengths or non-QSFP+ form factors should select an alternative module.

Questions about this item
Which fiber type should I choose for my link — OM3 multimode or single-mode?
Use OM3 multimode for runs up to 150 m; switch to single-mode when the span reaches 2 km. Both distances are supported at 1310 nm.
What does the 40 Gbps rating mean once the module is installed in a switch?
The module delivers four lanes of 10 Gbps each, giving an aggregate 40 Gbps throughput over a duplex LC link.
Which standards cap the electrical and mechanical interfaces in practice?
The electrical side follows IEEE 802.3ba, while the QSFP+ form factor meets SFF-8436 and the QSFP MSA.
