10Gb Dual-Port Network Adapter

This PCIe 2.1 x8 card uses the Intel X540-BT2 controller to deliver two RJ45 copper ports running at 10, 100, 1000 or 10000 Mbps over Cat5, Cat6, Cat7 or Cat8 cabling. Both low-profile and full-height brackets are included for standard or slim chassis.

Who this suits, who it does not

The adapter fits servers and workstations that need twin 10GBASE-T links on Windows Server 2003 through 2019, Windows 7 through 10, Linux, FreeBSD or VMware ESX/ESXi 6 and 7. It will not serve builds that require fibre connectors, single-port layouts or Wi-Fi connectivity.

Check your setup first

Verify the motherboard has a free PCIe x8 or x16 slot and that the operating system matches the supported list above. Confirm the cabling plan uses Cat6a for 100 m runs or Cat6 for 55 m runs at full 10 Gbps speed. Ensure a driver source is available from the Intel website or the on-card QR code.

Questions about this item

What motherboard slot is needed for the PCI Express 2.1 x8 lane interface?

The card requires a PCI Express x8 or x16 slot running at 2.1 with 5.0 GT/s signalling.

Will the dual RJ45 ports link at 10 Gbps with the Cat6 patch cables I already have?

Cat6 cables support 10 GBASE-T up to 55 metres; for the full 100 metres you need Cat6a or higher.

How can I verify the Intel X540-BT2 controller is recognised after installing the driver?

Check Device Manager or lspci for the X540 device and confirm link speed shows 10 Gbps on both ports.
