Dual USB-C and USB-A CAC reader
This foldable smart-card reader accepts CAC, government ID and ISO 7816 Class A, B and C chip cards at 5 V, 3 V and 1.8 V. It targets military personnel, federal employees and anyone needing secure authentication on Windows 10, 11, Mac OS or Linux. The dual connectors let you switch between modern and legacy ports without an adapter.
Driver installation and common issues
Windows 10 and 11 load drivers automatically; Mac OS requires a separate Java install from the official site, and DOD or USG users must add a third-party CAC enabler program. The foldable hinge protects the contacts when closed, but forcing the mechanism can damage the slim USB-C tongue. Linux works plug-and-play with standard PC/SC middleware.
Capacity limits and headroom
The reader handles every ISO 7816 voltage class used by current CAC and PIV cards, so standard federal credentials work without extra hardware. It draws power directly from the host port, so unpowered hubs or very low-current ports may cause intermittent reads. No internal storage or battery is present; the device is a pure bridge for chip-card transactions.

Questions about this item
How do I verify the reader is working after plugging it in?
The reader auto-installs drivers on Windows 10 or 11 and detects the smart card type immediately; on Mac you must install Java first, and DOD users need a third-party CAC enabler program.
What comes in the box and what must I buy separately?
You receive one compact folding CAC card reader with USB-C and USB-A ports; no cables or cards are included, so you supply your own CAC or ID card.
Which version should I choose for 5V, 3V and 1.8V chip cards?
This single model supports ISO7816 Class A, B and C cards across 5V, 3V and 1.8V, so no separate version is required.
