A 10-foot shielded null-modem cable with DB9 male and female connectors for RS232 serial links
The Black Box EYN257T-0010-MF is a 10-foot shielded cable designed for direct RS232 serial links between two DTE devices. It crosses transmit and receive lines internally so no external adapter is required. The DB9 male-to-female pinout suits legacy industrial, networking and point-of-sale equipment that still relies on serial console or modem emulation.
RS232 signalling is specified for short runs and the 10-foot length stays well within the typical practical range for reliable 232 communication. The overall foil and braid shield reduces electromagnetic pickup from nearby power cables or switching gear. Signal integrity will still degrade if the link is extended far beyond this length or routed through electrically noisy conduits without additional protection.
Each connector is covered by a metal hood that protects the solder joints and provides strain relief when the cable is plugged or unplugged repeatedly. The hoods also maintain shield continuity right to the connector shell, helping to keep ground loops and radiated noise under control. The male/female combination allows a straight connection to a standard DB9 port on one side and a gender-matched mate on the other.

The 10-ft cable gives you extra reach between rack-mounted gear and a desktop console without adding a coupler, while the 5-ft version suits tighter benches where slack would snag.
It confirms the wiring follows the RS-232 null-modem pinout, so transmit and receive lines cross inside the hood and two DTE ports can talk directly without a separate adapter.
The DB9 male and female ends limit you to legacy serial ports that still use the 9-pin D-sub shell, so any device needing a 25-pin or USB serial converter will need an additional adapter.
