Converts RS-232 signals to RS-422 or RS-485 for transmission up to 4000 ft
This Black Box ICD100A converter bridges RS-232 equipment to RS-422 or RS-485 networks over distances up to 4000 ft. It provides three ports: two RS-232 terminal blocks and one DB-9 connection. The external power adapter keeps the unit running in industrial and commercial environments. TAA compliance makes it suitable for government procurement projects.
The 1-inch high enclosure fits standard din rail and measures 3.1 by 4.2 inches, so it slides into crowded cabinets without tools. Terminal blocks accept stripped wires directly, removing the need for custom cables. Installers must match the RS-422/485 mode to the host protocol, otherwise data will not pass. The external power supply adds a second cable that must reach an outlet.

Connect a known-good RS-232 device to the DB-9 port and an RS-422/485 device to the terminal blocks, then confirm error-free data exchange at the far end of the cable run.
The converter ships with the external power adapter; you supply the DB-9 cable for the RS-232 side and the wiring for the two RS-232 terminal-block ports.
