A 16-port console server with a POTS modem and dual 10/100/1000 interfaces for out-of-band network management
The Black Box Innovations LES1716AR2 provides out-of-band management for up to sixteen serial devices through a single appliance. Network administrators use it to access routers, switches and servers when the primary network is unavailable. A built-in POTS modem adds a dial-back path for environments without reliable IP connectivity. TAA compliance makes it suitable for government procurement.
Two Gigabit Ethernet ports give the console server redundant or segmented LAN connections. Each port auto-negotiates at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps to match existing infrastructure. The dual-uplink design lets administrators separate management traffic from production traffic or provide a failover link. This interface choice determines whether the unit fits the planned network topology.
The unit operates without internal fans, relying on convection airflow within a standard rack cabinet. Acoustic output is negligible, so the appliance can sit in noise-sensitive equipment rooms or office-adjacent closets. Power draw remains modest because the chassis only drives serial transceivers, the modem and two Ethernet PHYs. Thermal load is low enough for dense rack deployments without special airflow planning.
