10GBase-T SFP+ Copper Transceiver

The Black Box SL-10GE-T converts an SFP+ port to a 10GBase-T RJ45 link using Cat 5e or better cabling. It targets network engineers and integrators who need copper connectivity on fibre switches, media converters or routers without replacing existing infrastructure. Hot-pluggable operation allows insertion or removal without network downtime.

Sustained 10 Gbps throughput over copper

The module maintains line-rate 10 Gbps across the full 30 m reach with a maximum draw below 2.5 W. Metal housing dissipates heat during continuous load so the transceiver stays within thermal limits inside densely populated chassis. Auto-negotiation steps down to 2.5 Gbps or 1 Gbps when linked to slower partners.

Practical limits of the 10GBase-T interface

IEEE 802.3U defines the electrical signalling but the 30 m ceiling is set by copper attenuation at 10 Gbps. Beyond that distance a fibre SFP+ module such as an SR or LR variant is required. The RJ45 connector also prevents use in environments that mandate optical isolation or extended temperature ratings.
