PCIe 5.0 4x MCIO host adapter
This Bolton Technical adapter adds a single MCIO interface to a system through a PCIe 5.0 or 4.0 x4 slot. It transmits PCI Express signals using the 4x protocol and supports cable-to-board or card-to-board connections. The converter is designed for data-centre, networking and telecommunications equipment that use SAS, PCIe, Ethernet and other signal protocols. An optional cable can attach one NVMe U.2 SSD to the new MCIO port.
Builders expanding server or workstation I/O
Suits integrators who need to add an MCIO connector for high-speed storage or networking links in a rack or tower chassis. The card fits a standard PCIe x4 slot and provides the physical interface for MCIO cables. Not suitable for users who require multiple MCIO ports from one bracket, or for laptops and small-form-factor PCs that lack a full-size PCIe slot. Buyers without an MCIO cable or a compatible NVMe U.2 drive should source those separately.
Single MCIO port via PCIe x4
The adapter exposes exactly one MCIO female connector driven by a PCIe 5.0 or 4.0 x4 electrical link. This lone port determines how many devices can be attached — one SSD or one cable assembly — so the build plan must account for that single connection point.

Questions about this item
Will the MCIO connector or the PCIe 5.0 4.0 4X interface need replacement after repeated SSD swaps?
The MCIO Mini Cool Edge IO connector is rated for data-centre cable-to-board cycles; the PCIe 5.0 4.0 4X host adapter itself has no moving parts and does not wear out from drive changes.
What limits sustained throughput first — the 4X lane width or the MCIO cable?
The 4X lane width caps the link at PCIe 5.0 4.0 4X speeds; a compliant MCIO cable will not become the bottleneck before that limit.
Does the adapter add audible noise or extra heat when running an NVMe SSD all day?
The passive PCB adds no fan noise; heat comes only from the attached SSD and is dissipated through the motherboard slot and chassis airflow.
