What the adapter adds

This BONAEVER ExpressCard 54mm adapter provides three USB 3.0 Type-A ports for notebooks that only have an ExpressCard slot. It is aimed at users who need to connect multiple peripherals such as external drives, keyboards or mice to an older laptop without internal USB 3.0 support.

How the bundled design changes use

The three ports are concealed inside a compact housing that slides into the 54 mm slot, keeping the laptop profile low and reducing the chance of snagging. Plug-and-play operation means no driver installation is required on supported operating systems, so the extra ports are available immediately after insertion.

Build and day-to-day implications

The adapter is supplied as a new protection-case accessory with a standard 54 mm ExpressCard connector on one end and three USB 3.0 female sockets on the other. Data rates reach 5.0 Gbps or 625 MB/s, though external power may be needed when two or three high-current devices are used simultaneously.

Questions about this item

Will the ExpressCard 54mm slot wear out from repeated insertion of this adapter?

The adapter uses a standard 54mm ExpressCard interface designed for regular laptop slot mating cycles; no user-serviceable parts are inside.

What limits sustained transfers when all three USB 3.0 ports are active?

The shared 5.0Gbps upstream link caps combined throughput at 625MB/s, so simultaneous high-speed drives will contend for bandwidth.

Does the adapter get hot or draw extra power when running all day with multiple drives?

External power is required for high-current devices or when two or three ports are used together, preventing excessive draw from the slot.
