Connects 3.3 V logic UART devices to a laptop via USB using a genuine FT232RL chip and a 3 ft cable with 6-pin 0.1 inch header
This FTDI USB-to-TTL adapter cable converts a USB 2.0 port into a 3.3 V logic-level serial interface for laptops and desktops. A genuine FT232RL chip handles UART signalling with configurable EEPROM and inverted-signal options. The six-pin 0.1 inch pitch female header exposes Tx, Rx, RTS#, CTS#, 5 V VCC and GND. Drivers support Windows 11, 10, 8, 8.1, 7, 2008, XP, Vista, CE, macOS and Linux 2.4+.
It replaces generic USB-serial dongles that lack a genuine FTDI chip or 3.3 V logic output. The jump is worth it when firmware flashing, router console access or GPS modules demand reliable VCP or D2XX drivers and stable 3.3 V signalling. The three-foot length suits bench work without excess cable clutter.
The cable plugs directly into a USB 2.0 Type-A port and the 0.1 inch header mates with standard pin strips on routers, set-top boxes, transmitters or hard-drive firmware headers. It frees up a dedicated serial port on legacy hardware and removes the need for a separate level shifter when targeting 3.3 V logic devices.

The cable terminates in a 6-pin female socket header with a 0.1 inch pitch for direct connection to standard UART pins.
Install the FTDI VCP driver; it exposes the FT232RL as a virtual COM port so terminal programs can open it without extra code.
Verify with a multimeter that the VCC pin stays at 5 V under load; if it drifts low, the onboard regulator may be degrading.
