7-Port USB 3.0 PCIe Card

This PCIe x1 expansion card adds seven USB 3.0 ports to a desktop computer through a single slot. It uses dual Renesas D720201 and D720210 chipsets to manage the connections and requires no external power cable. The card fits x1, x4, x8 or x16 slots and supports Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP, Linux and Mac OS 10.8.2 and above. A driver CD and two mounting screws are included in the package.

Suits PCIe desktops needing many ports

Builders with a free PCIe slot who want to connect several USB 3.0 devices at once will find this card useful. It is not for laptops or small-form-factor systems that lack a full-size PCIe slot. Buyers who need powered ports for charging high-draw devices should look elsewhere because the card draws all power from the slot. Systems without Windows, Linux or Mac OS 10.8.2 support cannot use the adapter.

5 Gbps transfer speed per port

Each of the seven ports delivers up to 5 Gbps bandwidth, which is ten times faster than USB 2.0. The dual Renesas chipsets maintain wide compatibility with motherboards that already have other USB 3.0 controllers. Backward compatibility with USB 2.0 and 1.0 devices is supported. This speed figure is the key specification for deciding if the card meets your data-transfer needs.

Questions about this item

Will this PCI-e x1 card fit alongside my existing PCI-e x16 graphics card?

The card uses a PCI-e x1 interface and works in x1, x4, x8 or x16 slots, so it can occupy a smaller slot while the graphics card uses the x16 slot.

How can I verify the 5 Gbps transfer speed is active after installation?

Connect a USB 3.0 storage device and check the link speed in Device Manager or run a file transfer; speeds up to 5 Gbps indicate the Renesas D720201 and D720210 chipsets are operating correctly.

Does the box include a driver disc and mounting screws, or must I source them separately?

The package includes the 7-port USB 3.0 PCI-e card, a driver CD and two screws; no extra items are required for installation.
