Protection Case for External Drive

The BONAEVER case is designed to store and protect an external CD/DVD drive during transport and storage. It suits users who carry an optical drive between home, office, or travel locations and want to shield the device from bumps and scratches.

USB 3.0 and USB-C Interface Limits

The drive inside uses USB 3.0 and USB-C connections for data and power. Performance is bounded by the USB 3.0 specification, so sustained transfer rates will not exceed that interface ceiling. The drive also functions on USB 2.0 ports at reduced speed.

8x DVD and 24x CD Write Capacity

The enclosed burner writes DVD media at up to 8x and CD media at up to 24x, which covers typical software installation, music ripping, and backup tasks. Very large multi-gigabyte archives will require multiple discs or a different storage medium. The drive reads standard CD and DVD formats but does not support Blu-ray media.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the USB-C or USB 3.0 connection for this drive?

The drive includes both USB-C and USB 3.0 interfaces; use whichever port your laptop has available — both deliver the same maximum 8× DVD and 24× CD write speeds.

What do the 8× DVD and 24× CD write speeds mean when I’m actually burning discs?

They are the peak rates the drive can sustain; real-world burn time depends on the disc quality and your computer’s USB throughput, but you can expect near those speeds on modern hardware.

Does the USB 3.0 interface limit transfer rates compared to newer standards?

USB 3.0 caps the theoretical bandwidth at 5 Gbit/s, which is well above the 8× DVD and 24× CD write speeds, so the interface will not bottleneck burning or reading.
