Vehicle fit and purpose

This backup camera is designed for Mercedes-Benz Vito W639 and Viano models produced between 2004 and 2012. It replaces the number-plate light to give the driver a rear view while parking or reversing.

Viewing angle and sensor

The unit uses a 1/3 inch CCD sensor with a 170 degree visible range and a 160 degree viewing angle, delivering 520 TV lines of resolution at 628 by 586 effective pixels. The IP67 rating means it withstands water ingress and operates from minus 40 to 70 degrees Celsius.

Installer notes and limits

The camera connects via a 6 metre AV cable and a 1.5 metre power lead to a 12 volt supply, using a universal RCA plug that may require an extra adapter for factory radios. It is not suited to original factory displays and will not fit vehicles outside the listed model years or number-plate recess dimensions.

Questions about this item

How wide is the 170 degree view once the camera is mounted on the vehicle?

The 170 degree visible range covers a broad field behind the Mercedes Vito W639 or Viano 2004-2012, reducing blind spots when reversing.

What does the RCA connector limit when hooking the camera to a display?

The universal RCA connector carries an NTSC composite signal capped at 520 TV lines, so the aftermarket monitor cannot display higher resolution.

What clearance is needed to fit the camera into the number-plate light recess?

The camera body must fit the licence-plate lamp opening on the Vito W639 or Viano 2004-2012; compare the unit dimensions to the recess before purchase.
