Network console cable for engineers
This USB to RJ45 console cable replaces legacy RS-232 serial ports, letting a laptop or PC connect directly to the console port of routers, switches, firewalls and other serial-based network devices. It uses an FTDI chipset and supports USB 2.0 with USB 1.1 compatibility for broad host support. The 1.8 m length suits rack-side configuration work.
Compatibility scope and limits
The cable works with Cisco, Juniper, NETGEAR, Ubiquiti, Linksys, TP-Link, Huawei, H3C, HP and 3Com equipment running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows, macOS or Linux. It is not an Ethernet cable and cannot carry network traffic. Chrome OS is explicitly unsupported, so users on that platform will need a different solution.
Pinout and speed details
The RJ45 connector follows the console DTE pinout: CTS, DSR, RXD, dual GND, TXD, DTR and RTS on pins 1 through 8 respectively. Maximum RS-232 signalling rate is 500 kbaud, which covers typical CLI debugging and configuration sessions. No additional drivers or adapters are bundled beyond the integrated FTDI chip.

Questions about this item
Does my laptop need a USB 2.0 Type-A port for the BUCIER console cable to work?
Yes, the cable plugs into a standard USB 2.0 Type-A port and is backward compatible with USB 1.1 hosts.
Will the FTDI chip in this cable communicate with a legacy DB-9 serial console port on my older switch?
The cable terminates in an RJ45 console connector; you will need a separate RJ45-to-DB-9 adapter to reach a DB-9 console port.
How can I verify the cable is recognised by the operating system after I plug it in?
Open Device Manager on Windows or run `lsusb` on Linux; the FTDI chip should appear as a USB Serial Port with a COM or ttyUSB assignment.
