Split-bolt connector joins 8 AWG to 6 AWG copper conductors with 165 in-lb torque and 35,000 V rating
The Burndy KS17 is a copper split-bolt connector designed for joining solid or stranded copper conductors in electrical installations. It accepts run wires from 8 AWG to 6 AWG and tap wires from 14 AWG to 6 AWG. The unplated copper body provides direct metal-to-metal contact for reliable conductivity in industrial and automotive wiring tasks.
A 0.63 in hex nut secures the connection with a square-head design that resists rounding during tightening. Applying the specified 165 in-lb torque ensures proper clamping force without damaging the copper body. Over-tightening can deform the connector while under-torquing risks loose connections that increase resistance and heat.
The connector handles high-voltage applications up to 35,000 V within its wire-range limits. Its copper construction withstands continuous temperatures up to 194 °F. It is not suited for aluminium conductors or wire sizes outside the 8 AWG to 6 AWG run and 14 AWG to 6 AWG tap ranges. RoHS compliant.

Tighten the square-head nut to 165 in-lb using a calibrated torque wrench; the joint should hold copper conductors from 8 AWG to 6 AWG run and 14 AWG to 6 AWG tap without movement.
The package includes the unplated copper split-bolt body with square head and 0.63 in hex nut; you must provide the copper conductors and a torque wrench capable of 165 in-lb.
This single model covers 8 AWG to 6 AWG run and 14 AWG to 6 AWG tap, so it fits both conductor sizes without needing a different version.
