What the Burndy MRC840AL crimper does

The Burndy MRC840AL is a 26 in mechanical rotating crimper built for aluminum compression lugs and splices. It accepts wire sizes from 8 to 4/0 AWG and is intended for electrical professionals who terminate aluminum building wire in the field or shop.

What to verify before ordering

Confirm that your connectors are aluminum compression lugs or splices within the 8 to 4/0 AWG range. The tool has no integrated wire cutter or stripper, so separate preparation tools are required. It is a manual, non-insulated design and the maximum crimping force is not rated by the manufacturer.

Build and daily use implications

The steel body and 26 in length give the leverage needed for large aluminum terminals while keeping the head rotating for access in tight panels. Manual adjustability means each crimp is set by feel, so consistent technique matters. No insulation on the handles implies standard electrical gloves are appropriate for live environments.

Questions about this item

Does the MRC840AL 26 in crimper come with any dies or connectors, or must they be purchased separately?

The crimper is sold as the tool body only; compression lugs, splices and aluminium terminals are not included and must be bought separately.

How do I know which compression lugs or splices suit the 8 to 4/0 AWG range on this MRC840AL?

Match the lug or splice to the exact conductor size you are terminating — the rotating head accepts standard compression dies for any size between 8 AWG and 4/0 AWG.

What does the 26 in length mean for leverage when crimping 4/0 AWG aluminium terminals?

The 26 in steel handles give two-hand mechanical advantage, letting you develop the force needed for full compression on the largest 4/0 AWG aluminium terminals.
