Direct-Burial Ground Clamp
The Burndy Pipe Ground Clamp 5AWG 2.5In is a mechanical grounding connector rated for direct burial. It accepts a single copper conductor ranging from 4 AWG solid up to 2/0 AWG stranded, making it suitable for grounding electrode systems in residential, commercial and industrial electrical installations.
Copper Build and Pipe Compatibility
The clamp body is made of copper and is UL Listed under UL467 for direct-burial use. It fits a 1/4 inch pipe as well as a 1/2 inch ground rod or rebar, allowing the same connector to join the grounding electrode conductor to either a driven rod or a metallic water-pipe electrode without additional adapters.
UL467 Scope and Conductor Limits
The UL467 listing covers direct-burial mechanical connections only; it does not extend to above-grade or exothermic-weld applications. The connector is limited to one copper wire per clamp and cannot accommodate aluminium conductors, larger cables beyond 2/0 AWG stranded or smaller cables below 4 AWG solid.

Questions about this item
How does the UL 467 listing affect direct-burial use of this ground clamp?
The UL 467 listing certifies the clamp for direct burial, meaning it meets safety standards for underground installations without additional protection.
What pipe and rod diameters does the 2.5 in clamp accommodate?
The clamp fits a 1/4 in pipe and a 1/2 in ground rod, as specified for the 2.5 in size.
Which conductor sizes can be installed, and what is the common torque mistake?
It accepts 4 to 3/0 AWG solid or 5 to 2/0 AWG stranded copper; the frequent error is under-torquing the set screw, which risks a loose connection.
