Aluminum M.2 Enclosure for NVMe and SATA

This aluminum enclosure converts M.2 solid-state drives into portable USB storage. It accepts M-key and B+M-key modules in 2242, 2260 and 2280 lengths. The tool-free design lets you swap drives without screws. It is aimed at technicians and mobile users who need quick access to different drives.

USB 3.2 Gen 2 and SATA speed limits

The USB-C connection runs at up to 10 Gbps with NVMe media and up to 6 Gbps with SATA media. Real-world throughput depends on the host port and the drive installed; older USB 3.0 or 3.1 Gen 1 ports will reduce the ceiling. B-key PCIe AHCI SSDs, Wi-Fi cards, capture cards and mSATA drives are not supported.

Aluminum shell with thermal pads and dual cables

An aluminum alloy shell acts as a heatsink and two thermal pads are included to help manage drive temperature during sustained transfers. A blue LED indicates data activity. Both USB-C and USB-A cables are supplied for broad host compatibility. The drive itself is not included.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 2242, 2260 or 2280 form factor for my SSD?

The enclosure accepts all three lengths — 2242, 2260 and 2280 — so choose the one that matches the physical size of your M.2 drive.

What does the 1000 MB/s figure mean when I use this with a real NVMe drive?

That is the practical read/write ceiling you can reach when pairing a high-performance NVMe SSD with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 10 Gbps or Thunderbolt 3 host port.

How does the USB 3.2 Gen 2 10 Gbps interface limit SATA SSDs in practice?

SATA SSDs are capped by the internal 6 Gbps SATA link, so they run at SATA speeds even though the USB pipe can carry 10 Gbps.
