M.2 M-key card adds a 10 Gbps SFP+ Ethernet port using an Intel 82599 controller
This network interface card adds a single 10 Gbps SFP+ port through an M.2 M-key slot using PCIe 2.0 x4 lanes. The Intel 82599EN controller handles 10 Gigabit and 1 Gigabit Ethernet traffic with hardware offloads for TCP/IP, iSCSI and FCoE. Virtualization features include SR-IOV, VMDq and IEEE 1588v2 timestamping. A low-profile bracket and SFF-8087 cable are included for installation flexibility.
Builders who need 10 GbE over fiber or direct-attach copper without occupying a full-size PCIe slot will benefit from this adapter. It supports PXE and UEFI boot for diskless deployments. Systems that only provide an M.2 SATA interface cannot use this card because the M.2 SATA protocol is not supported. Buyers requiring multiple ports or a standard PCIe bracket form factor should consider other options.
The card plugs into an M.2 M-key connector that carries four PCIe 2.0 lanes. If the motherboard or riser routes only SATA signals to that M.2 socket the adapter will not function. Verify the slot is wired for PCIe before purchase.

Yes, the card uses a PCIe 2.0 x4 interface and is backward-compatible with PCIe x4, x8 and x16 slots, so an older M.2 M-key slot running PCIe 2.0 will deliver the full 10 Gbps link speed.
Check the link status in the OS network adapter settings or the Intel PROSet utility; it should report a 10 Gbps full-duplex connection and show active SFP+ module details when a transceiver or DAC is inserted.
The package contains the network card, an SFF-8087 cable and a low-profile bracket; an SFP+ module, direct-attach cable or active optical cable must be purchased separately to complete the 10 GbE link.
