USB-C to USB-B 3.0 cable for legacy peripherals

This Cable Matters cable connects a USB Type-C host to external hard drives, docking stations, or USB switches that use a USB Type-B 3.0 port. It is aimed at users with newer laptops who need to keep older USB 3.0 peripherals in service.

Reversible connector clicks into place

The low-profile USB-C plug is reversible and seats with a positive click, reducing the chance of a loose link. The USB-B 3.0 end is physically incompatible with USB-B 2.0 ports, so it cannot be forced into older printers or scanners that only have the smaller 2.0 socket.

For USB 3.0 Type-B devices only

Suits owners of USB-C computers who must attach USB-B 3.0 docks, drives, or switches. Not for buyers who need to connect USB-B 2.0 peripherals, require video output, or expect the cable to deliver charging power to the attached device.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the 5 Gbps link is active after plugging in?

Check the operating system connection speed or run a large file transfer; sustained rates near 5 Gbps confirm the link is working.

What comes in the box and what must I buy separately?

The package includes the 3.3 ft USB-C to USB-B 3.0 cable with gold-plated connectors; no adapters or drivers are included.

Should I choose the 3.3 ft length or a longer version?

The 3.3 ft length suits desk setups; select a longer cable only if the peripheral sits farther from the host.
