Compatible two-way radio battery

This Cameron & Co DS-CS-BAF500TW lithium-ion pack replaces original BL-5 and BL-5L cells for a wide range of Baofeng and TYT handhelds. It fits models such as the UV-5R series, BF-F8 variants and TYT F8 or F9 radios. The 1.2 Ah capacity is intended for operators who need a direct-fit spare or replacement without modifying the radio.

Thermal behaviour in normal use

Lithium-ion chemistry generates minimal heat during typical transmit and receive cycles at 7.4 V. The slim 18.92 mm profile allows the pack to sit flush against the radio chassis, so warmth dissipates through the existing casing without additional cooling. No active thermal management is required for standard duty cycles.

Sustained load characteristics

Under continuous transmission the 8.88 Wh rating delivers steady voltage until the protection circuit cuts off at the safe lower limit. The 1200 mAh cell maintains consistent output across the discharge curve, avoiding the voltage sag that can trigger early low-battery alerts on compatible handsets.

Questions about this item

How do I fit the DS-CS-BAF500TW into my Baofeng UV-5R and what alignment step is often missed?

Slide the pack into the radio's battery compartment until the side rails click into the guide grooves; the step users miss is pressing the release latch fully down so the lock tab engages securely.

What upkeep will the 1200 mAh lithium-ion cell require over its life?

Store at roughly half charge if unused for weeks, keep contacts clean with a dry cloth, and avoid letting the pack drop to zero volts before recharging.

What limit appears first during a long transmit session with the 7.4 V pack?

The radio's thermal protection will cut power once the internal temperature rises past its safe threshold, typically before the 8.88 Wh capacity is fully drained.
