Hazardous-location exhaust fan

The Canarm AX24-4 is a shutter-mounted exhaust fan rated for explosion-proof operation in hazardous environments. It uses a 24-inch propeller driven by a 1/3 HP explosion-proof motor. The unit delivers 520 CFM at zero static pressure for general ventilation in classified areas.

Single-phase voltage and noise limits

The motor runs on 115 V or 208-230 V single-phase power at 60 Hz, drawing 6.6 A at the lower voltage and 3.1-3.3 A at the higher voltages. Sound output reaches 30 sones at five feet, and the maximum ambient temperature is 104 degrees F.

Shutter mounting and wiring considerations

Installation requires a wall opening suited to the 28 3/4-inch square housing and 18 3/4-inch depth. The closed-base design and ball-bearing motor simplify mechanical mounting, but the explosion-proof enclosure demands conduit and fittings rated for the same classification to maintain the safety rating.

Questions about this item

How do I choose between the 115 V and 208-230 V wiring options?

The motor runs on 115 V single-phase at 6.6 A or 208-230 V single-phase at 3.1-3.3 A; match the supply voltage available at the installation site.

What does the 520 CFM rating mean once the fan is installed?

At zero static pressure the fan moves 520 cubic feet per minute; actual airflow will drop as ductwork, shutters or filters add resistance.

What does the 30 sones rating tell me about noise in practice?

Measured at five feet with no static pressure, 30 sones is roughly as loud as a busy office; installed noise will vary with mounting and ducting.
