APS-C macro specialist for EOS SLRs

The Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM is built for APS-C format Canon EOS SLRs. It delivers 1x magnification with a 60mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/2.8. The lens is compatible with models such as the EOS 7D, 60D, 50D, 40D, 30D, 20D and various Rebel bodies. It is not designed for full-frame DSLRs or film cameras.

EF-S mount installs directly on crop bodies

The lens mounts natively on any listed EF-S compatible body without adapters. A ring-type USM motor provides autofocus with full-time manual focus override via the focus ring. The front element does not rotate during focusing, which keeps orientation steady for polarising or graduated filters. The minimum focus distance is 0.65ft for close-up work.

60mm focal length gives 96mm equivalent reach

On APS-C sensors the 60mm focal length yields a 25-degree angle of view equivalent to 96mm on a 35mm camera. The optical design uses 12 elements in 8 groups with a floating system to maintain flat-field performance at 1:1 magnification. The circular aperture aids smooth background blur for portraiture. The 52mm filter thread accepts standard accessories. Headroom ends at life-size reproduction; greater magnification requires extension tubes or a different optic.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the lens is delivering true 1:1 magnification after setup?

Focus on a ruler at the minimum focus distance of 0.65ft; the image should show 25 mm of the scale filling the APS-C frame width.

Which accessories are included and what must I buy separately?

The bundle supplies the EF-S 60 mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens, a 52 mm UV filter and a cleaning kit; extra filters, a hood or a tripod collar are separate purchases.

Should I choose this EF-S 60 mm macro or a full-frame macro lens for my APS-C body?

This lens is designed only for APS-C Canon SLRs such as the 7D, 60D or Rebel series and gives a 96 mm equivalent view; it will not mount on full-frame DSLRs or film cameras.
