Vertical shooting and tethered workflow
The Canon BG-R20EP battery grip attaches to the EOS R5 Mark II and adds a full set of vertical controls, including an improved multi-controller position. It accepts two LP-E6P batteries to extend shooting time and integrates a 2.5G Base-T Ethernet port for wired tethering. This combination targets studio and event photographers who need reliable handling and fast file transfer during long sessions.
Two batteries and 2.5G Ethernet headroom
With two LP-E6P cells installed the grip roughly doubles the camera’s native capacity, supporting extended bursts and video recording without frequent swaps. The 2.5G Base-T link moves large RAW and video files to a workstation or NAS at up to 2.5 gigabits per second, keeping pace with the R5 Mark II’s dual-shooting output. Bottlenecks appear only when the network infrastructure or receiving storage cannot sustain that throughput.
Ethernet port constraints
The 2.5G Base-T interface requires a compatible switch, router or direct link and Cat 5e or better cabling to reach its rated speed; slower LAN hardware will throttle transfer rates. The grip adds no wireless capability, so untethered mobile workflows must rely on the camera’s own Wi-Fi. Buyers who need faster than 2.5G wired ingest or built-in wireless offload should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item
Will the 2.5G Base-T Ethernet port on the BG-R20EP work with my existing Gigabit network switch and cables?
The 2.5G Base-T port negotiates link speed automatically, so it will operate at 1 Gbps on a standard Gigabit switch and Cat 5e or Cat 6 cabling without any configuration changes.
How can I verify the grip is communicating correctly with the EOS R5 Mark II after attaching it?
The camera's top LCD and viewfinder will display the combined battery level of both LP-E6P packs, and the vertical shutter release, multi-controller, and dials become active immediately when the camera is powered on.
Does the BG-R20EP ship with LP-E6P batteries or an Ethernet cable, or must I buy them separately?
The grip body is supplied without LP-E6P batteries and without an Ethernet cable; both items must be purchased separately.
