Standard zoom lens for APS-C DSLRs covering 18-55mm with 3.5-5.6 aperture and four-stop optical image stabilisation
The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II is a standard zoom lens built for APS-C format Canon EF-S mount DSLRs. It covers a focal range of 18 to 55 millimetres, equivalent to 28.8 to 88 millimetres in full-frame terms, making it suitable for wide-angle scenes through to short telephoto portraits. The lens is sold new and finished in black.
An integrated Optical Image Stabilizer provides up to four stops of shake correction, letting you shoot at slower shutter speeds without a tripod. The minimum focus distance of 9.8 centimetres allows close-up detail work, while the angle of view spans 74 degrees 20 minutes at the wide end to 27 degrees 50 minutes at the long end.
The maximum aperture ranges from f/3.5 at 18 millimetres to f/5.6 at 55 millimetres, so light gathering decreases as you zoom in. The minimum aperture reaches f/22 to f/38 for extended depth of field or long exposures in bright conditions. Buyers who need a constant aperture throughout the zoom range should consider other options.

The four-stop optical stabilizer is built into the lens barrel and has no user-serviceable parts; it is designed to last the life of the lens under normal handling.
Diffraction becomes noticeable beyond the minimum aperture of f/22 at 18 mm and f/38 at 55 mm, so stopping down further will reduce resolution.
The lens body stays near ambient temperature and the optical stabilizer operates silently, adding no audible hum or measurable heat during extended use.
