Wide-angle hybrid lens for stills and video

The Canon RF 24mm f/1.4 L VCM is a new wide-angle prime built for mirrorless cameras. It serves photographers and filmmakers who need a fast f/1.4 aperture and quiet operation. The L-Series construction targets professionals working in demanding conditions. Buyers who need a zoom range or a longer focal length should look elsewhere.

Sustained optical stability and quiet drive

The Voice Coil Motor drives the rear focus group while a Nano USM unit handles floating focus for fast, near-silent autofocus during extended takes. Focus breathing stays within 2.5% optically and drops to 1.0% with electronic correction, keeping framing consistent across long pulls. The iris ring provides clickless manual aperture control for smooth exposure shifts. No technology beyond the listed motors and coatings is employed.

Weather-sealed L build with fluorine coat

L-Series durability and weather-resistant sealing protect the mechanism in harsh environments. Air Sphere Coating and a Fluorine Coating on the front element reduce ghosting, flare and surface contamination during daily use. The black barrel carries a dedicated iris ring and standard AF/MF switch for direct tactile control. Dimensions, weight and filter size are not supplied in the data.

Questions about this item

How much heat or noise does the VCM motor produce during long video shoots?

The Voice Coil Motor is described as virtually silent and works with Nano USM on the floating focus unit, so running all day adds negligible noise or heat.

Which camera bodies can I mount this RF 24mm f/1.4 L VCM on?

It fits Canon full-frame mirrorless cameras using the RF mount.

Will focus breathing stay low when I pair this lens with an older EOS R body?

Breathing is within 2.5% optically and 1.0% with electronic correction, performance that is independent of the camera generation.
