12 AWG 3 Conductor Portable Cord

This 100 ft length of SOOW cord carries three 12 AWG conductors rated for 600 V. It is suited for industrial equipment, temporary power distribution and job-site wiring where a flexible, oil-resistant jacket is required. The black CPE jacket protects the black, green and white insulated conductors inside.

Upgrade from lighter portable cord

The SOOW construction replaces lighter SJOOW or SJTW cords when higher voltage rating and tougher jacket material are needed. The jump is worth it for applications that demand 600 V service and resistance to oil, water and abrasion in continuous flexing. Lighter cords lack the voltage rating and jacket durability for those conditions.

Simple cut-to-length installation

Installation consists of cutting the 100 ft reel to the required length and terminating the three conductors in suitable plugs, connectors or terminal blocks. The .6 in. outside diameter fits standard 12 AWG cord grips and strain-relief fittings. Common issues include stripping the tough CPE jacket without nicking conductor insulation and ensuring watertight seals on outdoor terminations.

Questions about this item

What size conduit or tray will fit the 0.6 in outside diameter?

The cord has a nominal outside diameter of 0.6 in, so choose conduit or tray rated for at least that diameter to allow easy pulling and code-compliant fill.

How do I strip the CPE jacket and the three 12 AWG conductors without nicking the copper?

Score the black CPE jacket with a sharp utility knife, peel it back, then use a 12 AWG stripper notch for each black, white and green conductor; nicked strands reduce ampacity and must be cut off and re-stripped.

When should I replace the cord if the jacket shows cuts or the conductors discolour?

Replace the cord immediately if the CPE jacket is cut, cracked or abraded, or if the black, white or green conductors show heat discolouration, because 600 V service requires intact insulation for safety.
