Computerised 130 mm reflector with 4000-object database and motorised altazimuth mount
The Celestron NexStar 130 SLT is a 130 mm Newtonian reflector on a fully motorized altazimuth mount. It provides 30 percent more light gathering than the 114 mm model. The system suits beginners and experienced observers who want push-button targeting of deep-sky objects.
A computerized hand controller stores over 4000 celestial targets including 600 galaxies and 300 clusters. SkyAlign technology and the red-dot StarPointer finderscope simplify alignment so the telescope can automatically slew to any catalogued object within minutes of setup.
The 650 mm focal length and fast f/5 ratio deliver wide, bright views of nebulae and star clusters. Standard 1.25 inch eyepieces are supported; the optical tube does not accept 2 inch barrels. An auxiliary port allows optional GPS or other accessories for expanded capability.

The 130 mm Newtonian reflector uses a standard mirror cell with three collimation screws; check alignment after transport or once per observing season and adjust with the built-in screws if stars show coma.
The mount runs on eight AA cells or an external 12 V supply; battery voltage drop after several hours of continuous slewing is the first practical limit, so a regulated 12 V pack is recommended for all-night use.
The motorized fork arm uses low-torque stepper motors that emit a faint whir only during goto slews; while tracking, the drive is nearly silent and generates negligible heat, so ambient temperature stays unchanged.
