9.25" EdgeHD Optical Tube

The Celestron 9.25" EdgeHD Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube uses an aplanatic flat-field design to deliver aberration-free images across a wide visual and photographic field. StarBright XLT coatings on the 9.25" aperture maximize light transmission for bright, high-contrast views of deep-sky objects. It includes a 2" Luminos 23mm eyepiece and a 1.25" reducer adapter for flexible magnification options.

Astrophotographers needing flat fields

This tube suits imagers who require a focal plane over three times flatter than a standard Schmidt-Cassegrain to keep stars sharp across large CCD chips. Visual observers wanting edge-to-edge clarity without field curvature also benefit. Buyers who need a complete system with mount, tripod or computerized goto should look at something else as this is an optical tube assembly only.

Aplanatic flat-field Schmidt-Cassegrain design

The defining specification is the aplanatic Schmidt-Cassegrain optical design that produces a flat focal plane free from field curvature and coma. This ensures pinpoint stars across the full frame of large camera sensors, a requirement for serious astrophotography. The optical tube includes mirror clutches with flexible tension to hold the primary mirror securely during long exposures.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the 23mm Luminos eyepiece to the 1.25" reducer adapter without cross-threading?

Insert the 1.25" reducer adapter into the rear cell first, then thread the 23mm eyepiece into the adapter; start both by hand to feel the threads engage before tightening.

Will the StarBright XLT coatings on the 9.25" aperture degrade and require recoating?

The coatings are durable dielectric layers that do not wear off under normal use; recoating is not a scheduled maintenance item.

At what point does mirror shift become noticeable during a long exposure with this EdgeHD tube?

The flexible-tension mirror clutches are designed to lock the primary mirror in place, so shift is minimised even during extended imaging sessions.
