Lunar glare reduction

The Celestron 94119-A Moon Filter cuts the intense brightness of a near-full Moon to 18 % transmission. It threads onto any 1.25 inch eyepiece barrel with a 21 mm clear aperture. The filter lets the observer’s eye relax so finer surface detail becomes visible.

Visual observers using 1.25 inch eyepieces

This accessory suits backyard astronomers who find the Moon too dazzling to study comfortably. It will not fit 2 inch barrels or smaller diameters, and it does not replace a solar filter for daytime observing.

18 % transmission

The single figure that decides suitability is the 18 % transmission rate. Buyers who need a darker or lighter view should choose a filter with a different transmission value.

Questions about this item

What barrel diameter does the 1.25 inch Moon Filter screw onto?

The filter threads directly onto the insert barrel of most 1.25 inch eyepieces.

How do you attach the 94119-A filter and what step is often missed?

Screw it firmly onto the eyepiece barrel until seated; the step people miss is checking that the 21mm clear aperture is not vignetted by the eyepiece stop.

Will the 18% transmission coating degrade and need replacement?

The coating is durable for normal use; replacement is only needed if the glass is scratched or the filter threads are damaged.
