Celestron Advanced VX 8" SCT Telescope

This Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope features an 8 inch aperture with StarBright XLT coatings for improved light transmission. It is designed for amateur astronomers and astrophotographers who want portability without sacrificing performance. The system captures 84% more light than a 6 inch telescope. Integer gear ratios and programmable Periodic Error Correction eliminate recurring track errors from the worm gear.

Check mount capacity and power requirements

Verify that your tripod and pier can support the Advanced VX mount’s weight and payload rating before ordering. Ensure you have a suitable power source for the motorised GoTo system and the autoguider port. Confirm that your imaging software and camera are compatible with the mount’s control interface. Buyers who need a lighter grab-and-go setup or a larger aperture for deeper imaging should consider other options.

Integrates with autoguider and control software

The autoguider port allows connection of a guide camera for long exposure imaging sessions. Celestron PWI telescope control software and SkyAlign technology simplify alignment and operation. The 6x30 optical finderscope assists with locating alignment stars. The fork arm design frees up space for accessories while the permanent PPEC enhances tracking accuracy for astrophotography.

Questions about this item

What accessories come in the box and what must I purchase separately?

The telescope includes an 8 inch (203 mm) f/10 optical tube with StarBright XLT coatings, a 6x30 optical finderscope, and an autoguider port for long exposure imaging. Eyepieces, a camera adapter, and a power supply for the mount are not included.

Should I choose the 8 inch model or a smaller aperture for deep sky imaging?

The 8 inch aperture gathers 84% more light than a 6 inch telescope, providing significantly brighter and more detailed views of faint galaxies and nebulae for both visual observation and astrophotography.

How does the permanently programmable periodic error correction improve tracking during long exposures?

It eliminates recurring tracking errors from the worm gear by storing correction data, allowing the mount to maintain precise tracking accuracy over extended imaging sessions without manual intervention.
