Chicago-Latrobe 42020 Jobber Drill

The Chicago-Latrobe 42020 is a 135 degree wide land parabolic jobber length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal. It features a split point tip for accurate starts and is constructed from high speed steel with a TiCN coating for wear resistance.

Users drilling mild steel and aluminium

This bit suits mechanics and fabricators drilling mild steel, aluminium and similar materials where the parabolic flute aids chip removal. Buyers needing coolant-through capability or a different point angle for specialised alloys should look at other tooling.

135 degree split point geometry

The 135 degree split point reduces walking on contact and lowers thrust force compared to standard points. This single specification determines whether the bit matches the material hardness and machine rigidity of your application.

Questions about this item

What does the 135-degree split point do once the bit is in the drill?

The 135-degree split point centres the bit instantly and reduces walking on hard materials, so the hole starts exactly where you place it.

How does the TiCN coating affect drilling performance?

TiCN increases surface hardness and heat resistance, letting the bit stay sharp longer and run at higher speeds without overheating.

Will the 5/16-inch shank fit a standard three-jaw chuck?

Yes, the 5/16-inch shank is sized for any drill chuck that accepts up to that diameter, so it mounts securely in most portable drills and drill presses.
