15/32" Cobalt Drill Bit for Demanding Materials

The Chicago-Latrobe 44830 is a jobber-length drill bit made from cobalt steel with a 135-degree split point. It is designed for drilling hard metals such as stainless steel and high-strength alloys where standard high-speed steel bits wear quickly. The straw-bronze surface finish identifies the cobalt composition.

Straightforward Chuck Installation

The bit fits any standard drill chuck that accepts a 15/32 inch shank, requiring no special adapters for insertion. Common issues arise when excessive speed or insufficient pressure causes the split point to walk or overheat, dulling the cobalt edge prematurely. Rigid workpiece clamping and cutting fluid prevent most failures.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the 135-degree split point is cutting correctly after setup?

The 135-degree split point should start drilling on contact without wandering; a clean, round hole in steel confirms it is working as intended.

Does the 44830 come with any case or lubricant, or must I buy them separately?

The 44830 is supplied as a single 15/32-inch cobalt drill bit; a case and cutting fluid are not included and must be purchased separately.
