2.00 mm high-speed steel jobber drill bit with a 118-degree conventional point and black-oxide finish
The Chicago-Latrobe 47243 is a 2.00 mm high-speed steel jobber drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood and plastic. It suits workshop technicians and maintenance staff who need a reliable bit for everyday through-hole tasks. The 118-degree conventional point starts cleanly without a pilot hole. Black oxide finish adds corrosion resistance and reduces chip welding.
The black oxide coating on the high-speed steel body lowers friction and improves chip evacuation compared with a bright finish. This extends usable life when drilling mild steel or aluminium and helps the bit run cooler under hand-held or drill-press use. No coolant holes are present, so the operator must clear chips manually in deep holes. The coating also provides a visible wear indicator as the surface brightens with use.
The 2.00 mm diameter (0.0787 in decimal) handles light-gauge sheet metal, plastic brackets and softwood up to the full jobber flute length. It runs out in hardened steel, thick plate or abrasive composites where a cobalt or carbide bit would be required. The straight shank fits standard three-jaw chucks without a reduced-shank adapter. Buyers needing larger diameters or split-point geometry for precision centring must select a different bit.

Resharpen the 118-degree conventional point when cutting edges dull; replace the bit if the flutes wear down or the shank damages.
Heat buildup in the high-speed steel body and chip packing in the flutes become the limiting factors under sustained use.
Noise and heat depend on the drill motor and workpiece; the bit itself adds minimal power draw and generates heat only at the cutting zone.
