Chicago-Latrobe 49721 Taper Length Drill Bit

This Chicago-Latrobe 49721 taper length drill bit is made from high speed steel with a black oxide finish. It features a 118 degree radial point angle designed for general purpose drilling. The flute length suits deeper hole applications in metal, wood or plastic. It is a new cutting tool intended for professional and workshop use.

21/64 inch HSS bit for deeper holes

This bit suits machinists and maintenance technicians who need the extra reach of a taper length design. It is not for buyers who require a shorter jobber length bit for standard drilling tasks. Users needing a split point for self-centring without a centre punch should look at a different point geometry. It also does not suit applications requiring cobalt alloy or carbide cutting edges.

Questions about this item

When will the 118° point on this 21/64 in HSS bit need resharpening?

The 118° point angle dulls gradually; resharpen when feed pressure rises or hole quality drops, typically after drilling many holes in steel.

What stops this taper-length bit from running continuously in deep holes?

Chip evacuation becomes the limiting factor; the long flutes pack with swarf, so you must withdraw frequently to clear them.
