Chicago-Latrobe 49740 5/8 inch drill bit

The Chicago-Latrobe 49740 is a taper length drill bit made from high speed steel with a black oxide finish. It features a 118 degree point angle and a radial point design. This tool suits metalworkers and mechanics drilling deep holes in steel and other ferrous materials.

Straight shank fits standard chucks for quick

The bit installs directly into a standard drill chuck without adapters, so setup is fast. The taper length body provides extra reach but can flex if feed pressure is too high. Users who need a shorter, more rigid bit for shallow holes should choose a jobber length alternative instead.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the 118-degree point is cutting correctly after I start drilling?

The drill should produce a clean, centred hole with steady chip ejection and no walking or chatter when the 118-degree point engages the workpiece.

What comes in the package for model 49740 and is anything else required to use it?

The box contains the single 5/8-inch HSS black-oxide taper-length drill bit; a compatible drill chuck or collet is needed separately to hold the bit.
