Chicago-Latrobe 52447 Reduced Shank Drill

The Chicago-Latrobe 52447 is a silver and deming drill bit with a 47/64 in diameter and a 1/2 in reduced shank. It suits machinists and maintenance technicians who need to drill large holes using a standard drill chuck.

Sustained drilling with high speed steel

The high speed steel construction resists heat buildup during prolonged cuts in steel or cast iron. The 118 degree point angle centres quickly and maintains consistent chip evacuation without wandering under continuous feed pressure.

Black oxide finish and reduced shank utility

A black oxide finish adds lubricity and reduces galling on the flute surfaces. The 1/2 in reduced shank fits three-jaw chucks on bench drills and heavy-duty handheld units, eliminating the need for a larger capacity holder.

Questions about this item

How much heat does the 118-degree point generate during extended drilling?

The 118-degree point angle is designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood and plastic; using cutting fluid and proper feed pressure keeps temperatures manageable during long sessions.

What chuck size is required for the 1/2 reduced shank on this 52447 bit?

A drill chuck with at least 1/2-inch capacity is needed to grip the reduced shank securely.

Will the 47/64-inch diameter work in a 1/2-inch drill press spindle?

The 47/64-inch cutting diameter exceeds a 1/2-inch spindle bore, so the bit must be used in a machine with a larger spindle or a suitable adapter.
