A 37/64 inch high-speed steel drill bit with a 118 degree point angle and 1/2 inch reduced shank
The Chicago-Latrobe 55437 is a Silver & Deming drill bit made from high-speed steel with a black oxide finish. It is designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood and plastic where a reduced shank is required. The 118-degree point angle suits a wide range of materials and handheld or stationary use.
The 1/2-inch reduced shank allows this 37/64-inch bit to be used in drill chucks that cannot accept larger straight shanks. This extends the capacity of a standard 1/2-inch chuck without needing a specialty holder. The black oxide finish helps retain lubricant and resist corrosion during operation.
Insert the shank fully into the chuck and tighten securely on the flats to prevent spin-out under load. Apply steady pressure and appropriate cutting fluid for the material to avoid overheating the high-speed steel. Common problems include dulling the 118-degree point on hard alloys or snapping the bit if side-loaded in deep holes.

Select the 37/64 in bit when you need that exact hole diameter; other sizes in the Silver & Deming range cover different fractional increments.
The 118 degree point centres quickly in mild steel and general-purpose metal, giving a clean start without a centre punch.
The 1/2 reduced shank fits any drill chuck that accepts 1/2 in shanks, letting you use this larger bit in standard 1/2 in capacity drills.
