Chicago-Latrobe 55465 Silver/Deming Drill

This high-speed steel drill bit features a 1 1/64 inch cutting diameter and a 118 degree point angle. The black oxide finish adds wear resistance for general-purpose machining. It suits professionals and DIY users drilling metal, wood or plastic with a reduced-shank tool.

Reduced shank design fits smaller chucks

The reduced shank allows this large-diameter bit to be used in drill chucks with a smaller maximum capacity. High-speed steel construction handles standard drilling tasks in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. No bundled accessories or software are included with this single bit.

Questions about this item

Will the black-oxide coating on this 1 1/64 in high-speed steel bit need reapplication after heavy use?

The black-oxide finish is a surface treatment applied during manufacturing and cannot be reapplied; once worn away the underlying high-speed steel remains functional but loses the coating's lubricity and corrosion resistance.

What becomes the limiting factor when drilling deep holes in steel with this 118-degree point angle bit?

The 118-degree point angle increases thrust force and reduces chip clearance in deep holes, so heat buildup at the tip and chip packing in the flutes become the primary limits on sustained drilling depth.
