8-piece cobalt drill bit set

This Chicago-Latrobe 69868 set supplies eight cobalt drill bits with a 118-degree point angle. The M42 alloy contains 8% cobalt for improved heat resistance and wear life. Bits feature a reduced shank design to fit standard chucks. The straw finish adds surface lubricity during cutting operations.

Capacity and headroom for drilling tasks

The eight-piece assortment covers a range of hole diameters for metalworking and maintenance jobs. Cobalt construction handles stainless steel and other hard alloys that wear out standard high-speed steel bits. The 118-degree point suits general-purpose drilling but is not optimised for deep-hole or high-precision work. Users needing larger diameters or specialised point geometries will require additional bits.

Questions about this item

Will the 118-degree point on these cobalt bits start cleanly in the hardened steel plate I already have clamped?

The 118-degree point angle is designed for general-purpose drilling and will centre without a pilot hole in hardened steel, though a centre punch helps on thicker sections.

How can I confirm the 8-percent cobalt M42 bits are cutting properly once I start drilling?

Look for short, golden-brown chips and steady feed pressure; blue chips or excessive heat mean the speed is too high for the material.
