Chicago-Latrobe 70230 Jobber Drill Bit

The Chicago-Latrobe 70230 is a fractional 15/32 inch high-speed steel jobber length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling tasks. Its TiN coating and 118-degree conventional point angle provide reliable performance across a range of common materials.

Replaces dull or undersized bits for 15/32 inch

Switch to this bit when an existing 15/32 inch tool shows wear or when a smaller diameter no longer meets the hole requirement. The jump is worth it when the decimal equivalent .4688 matches the precise specification for the fastener or pilot hole being prepared.

Suits maintenance and fabrication shops drilling

This non-coolant-through bit suits operators who need a durable TiN coated tool for standard jobber length applications. Builders requiring coolant-through capability or a different point geometry for specialised materials should look at something else.

Questions about this item

Will the 15/32 in shank fit my standard 1/2 in drill chuck?

Yes, the 15/32 in diameter is 0.4688 in, which fits any 1/2 in capacity chuck.

How do I start the hole without the 118 degree conventional point walking?

Use a centre punch to mark the centre, then apply steady pressure at low speed until the point engages.

When should I replace this high-speed steel TiN bit?

Replace it when the cutting lips are rounded, the TiN coating has worn off the flutes, or it produces excessive heat and smoke.
