Managed 24-port Gigabit PoE+ switch with 32K MAC table and Layer 3 routing
The Cisco Catalyst 3850 Series WS-C3850-24PW-S is a managed Ethernet switch with 24 primary ports operating at 10/100/1000 Mbps. It delivers full IEEE 802.3at PoE+ power on every port for access points, cameras or IP phones. The Layer 3 feature set supports routing, VLANs, QoS and LACP for traffic segmentation and link aggregation. A 32K MAC address table and jumbo frame support up to 9198 bytes suit enterprise access and aggregation layers.
Redundant fans and field-replaceable power supplies maintain airflow and service continuity during module swaps. The unit runs on AC 120/230 V at 50/60 Hz, drawing only the power required for connected PoE+ devices and switch operation. Fan speed adjusts to internal temperature, keeping acoustic output low in typical office wiring closets. StackWise-480 technology distributes load across stack members, reducing per-unit thermal stress.
A desktop form factor allows placement on a shelf or bench without rack ears. Twenty-four RJ45 downlinks provide copper connectivity for endpoints, while modular network module slots accept optional fibre or copper uplinks. Stacking cables connect up to nine switches into a single logical unit managed through one IP address. Hot-swap power supply and fan bays enable maintenance without disconnecting live network cables.

Mount the switch in a rack or on a desktop, connect the AC 120/230 V power cord, then link the 24 PoE+ ports. The step often missed is enabling StackWise-480 stacking cables before powering on if you plan a stack.
The switch uses redundant, field-replaceable fans and power supplies. Plan to swap a fan module or power supply if an alert appears, and keep spare network modules for the modular downlink slots.
The MAC address table holds 32K entries. Once that table fills, new device entries cannot be learned until old entries age out, which is the first hard limit hit during sustained high-density traffic.
